Scholarships are free monies that you can use to help pay for higher educational expenses. If you receive a scholarship, you do not have to worry about paying any of the money back once you graduate. There are tons of scholarships but here are my favorite ones! Most of these scholarships are open to undocumented and DACAmented students which is a plus!

Mente Summit Scholarship

The Mente Summit Scholarship is open to all Latinx males interested in continuing their educational careers. If you are a graduating high school student this year and you want to continue learning but are not interested in going to a four-year college, no problem, this scholarship is open for those interested in vocational, trade, and or technical school. This scholarship is also open to current students enrolled at one of the mentioned institutions. Guess what? This scholarship has no GPA requirement AND you can submit your essay in Español. That’s right, so there are no excuses.

After you submit your application don't get forget to register for the conference happening at Linfield College on March 6, 2020.

Oh, one more thing! Mente Summit will be hosting a live question & answer scholarship session on January 15th, tune in to get your scholarship questions answered. The session will be on Facebook and Instagram so make sure to follow them!

Deadline: January 31, 2020

César E. Chávez Leadership Conference Student Scholarships

This scholarship is open to all graduating high school students that identify as Latinx or come from seasonal farm working families. Now full disclosure, I am particularly biased about this scholarship because I myself, was a recipient. This was the first scholarship that made it possible for me to go to college. I will forever be grateful that the committee chose to invest in me.

While the scholarship can applied at almost any college or university, students who are awarded the scholarship may also receive a one-year tuition scholarship when they enroll at Chemeketa Community College.

Deadline(s): January 10, 2020.

Hispanic Metropolitan Chamber

The Hispanic Chamber has been investing in students continuing their higher education for the last 20+ years. Applicants for this scholarship must be of Hispanic ancestry, permanently residing in Oregon or Clark County in Washington. The Hispanic Metropolitan Chamber collaborates with various colleges and universities to maximize your scholarship dollars. This scholarship is open to high school graduates, undergraduates, and graduates students.

I personally benefited from this scholarship when I was in graduate school and was really impressed by the amount of support I received from my sponsor. Beyond the financial benefits of this scholarship, I was able to build a supportive network while in graduate school. This is one of the few scholarships open to graduate students.

Deadline(s): January 31, 2020

Ford Family Foundation

Can you imagine receiving a scholarship that covers up to 90 percent of your unmet college costs? The Ford Family scholarship not only provides a generous investment towards your education, it also provides you with phenomenal support throughout your educational career.

You will need to apply for this scholarship through the OSAC application portal. The benefit of applying through OSAC is that you have the chances to qualify for more scholarships! Doesn’t that sound awesome? OSAC scholarship has over 500+ scholarship you may be eligible to qualify and it only takes one application.

¡Aguas! Completing your student profile and writing your essays will most likely require you to spend a few days to finish. Give yourself plenty of time!

Have you ever heard the saying, "el que madruga dios lo ayuda?" Well, sometimes, scholarships kind of work like that too. Early bird means that if you submit your scholarship early, you will also have a chance to win an additional $1,000 dollars

Deadline(s): The early bird deadline is February 15, 2020. Your last chance is March 20, 2020.

CASA of Oregon: Sister Adele Scholarship

Scholarships vary from $1,000 to $3,000. The application is available both English and Spanish so you have the options to go through the process in the language you are most comfortable. Also, just like the Mente Summit Scholarship there are no GPA requirements.

Don’t qualify for this scholarship? Don’t worry! Make sure you check out CASA of Oregon’s IDA programs. These programs help you save money for college and provide you with a match benefit to double AND even triple your money for your higher education career!
